When it comes to maintaining a healthy infrastructure for your home, it is safe to say that the roof is one of the most important elements, second only to the foundation.
Damaged roofs can create significant and unforeseen expenses for homeowners, along with many other issues if it is not deal with as quickly as possible.
Here are a few major causes of roof damage:
- Weather conditions. While weather could easily fall into a bunch of different subcategories, you need to make sure your roof is prepared for all kinds of different scenarios. Weather damage to roofs come from wind, ice, snow, hail and even excessive amounts of sunshine. After a serious snowstorm, for example, you need to get up on the roof and clear off the snow as quickly as possible. If not, the weight of it can cause permanent destruction.
- Faulty gutters. Gutters are responsible for directing water away from the home’s roof and foundation; when they are clogged or not working properly, water can begin to build up and spread to the roof. The water will collect and rot parts of the roof, softening and weakening the materials and creating severe water damage both outside and inside the home.
- Trees and other debris. Tree limbs and branches are a very common reason roofs get damaged, but this problem can easily be taken care of by homeowners. Even the largest tree branches can snap in a storm, so they need to be trimmed and kept away from the house. The more you trim and prune, the safer and more protected your entire roof will be in the long run.
