On a typical day, especially during the extremely cold winter month, the last thing you probably want to deal with is the water damage that snow and rain create. This can be a real pain due to the stress of time and money, with can be significant and costly for the individual. While finding this early might be the best bet for you as an individual homeowner, this is not always possible, but there are some things that you can look out for in order to avoid these problems. Let’s take a look at these problems and how you can identify them.
Leaky Roofs
Even the smallest of leaks can identify where your water damage has come from. If you think about the amount of water that can get into a house even from a slightly dripping roof, it is massive. This leak could come from anything from improper roof installation, to storm damage, to lack of maintenance. Another thing that could cause this issue is a broken shingle, which can cause water marks on the ceiling or wall and lead to structural deterioration of your home.
Storms
This spring, we have seen some intense storms. From crazy snow in the early days of spring to the insane rain we have been receiving, we can see why water damage has increased significantly. Unfortunately, the weather isn’t something that you can control, and when a storm is in the forecast, you do your best to prepare for it.
Whether it’s a winter storm, a spring rainstorm, a thunderstorm, or a hurricane, any of those events can produce flood waters that can do immense damage to your home. Water damage from storms can cause several issues including:
- disintegration of drywall
- swelling, warping, and splitting of wood that forms the structure of your house
- damage to electrical components
- the growth of mold and mildew
