Is Your Roof Storm Proof?

The first major tropical storm of the summer has hit the Eastern United States. Hurricane Arthur is expected to ruin Fourth of July plans for many on the East Coast, specifically those in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

New England, including Boston, and Cape Cod and the Islands, are supposed to receive heavy winds and rain Friday. The storm is not expected to do as much damage in Massachusetts as it may in the Carolinas.

In preparing for a major tropical or winter storm, it is critical to make sure your home is ready. Such storms can bring extremely high winds, as well as high amounts of precipitation, both of which can do major damage to your home.

One area of your home that you should pay particularly close attention to is your roof. Severe storms and hurricanes can do grave damage to your roof, siding, and gutters. High wind speeds can mean damage to shingles and roof windows.

In the  winter, heavy snow accumulation can cause trouble if it is present on your roof for an extended period of time.
