Mold on the other hand, is characterized by its black, brown, and green blotches, rather than a large swath of color like algae often appears as. Algae can often exist on a roof without causing considerable damage, although over time it will hold moisture on the roof and lead to mold & rot. Mold, on the other hand, will only appear in instances of excess moisture causing rot damage.

For mold, algae, moss or any other roof growth, the solution is always the same. You will want to make a mixture of water & bleach, generally the recommendation if 50/50. You will then want to carefully spread the mixture over the roof, allowing it to sit for a couple of minutes to dissolve the growth. Once it has done its work, you will then want to rinse the roof off with a hose. Keep in mind that the bleach mixture could damage foliage below your roof line, so take proper precautions if there is anything you want to keep protected.
