April showers bring May flowers, but did you know that this type of weather can really affect your roof?
Roofing is typically very durable, especially during the wintertime. Any type of roofing typically holds up the weight of snow, as well as the winds blowing this snow off the roof, but roofing does have a few vulnerabilities that show slightly more than usual in the springtime.
With the winter snow starting to melt, you will most likely see more ice starting to form, as the temperature begins fluctuating, especially in New England. Let’s take a look at some more ways that springtime can affect your roofing.
Spring Weather Effects
Spring brings a bit more water and moisture than other seasons, and because of this, roofing can be a bit more tricky to maintain. Here are some more reasons why spring can be difficult:
- Heat: the constant fluctuation of heat and cold can be a killer for gutters and roofing, as the snow can turn to water which will then turn to ice again, and this is how we get ice dams.
- Fallen Debris: With the windy weather, branches and similar debris can fall and hit your roof, causing a bit of damage, so this should be looked out for.
- Hail: Hail can cause severe damage to a roof when the pieces are large.
- Winds: Winds attribute a bit to almost all of these common problems.
- Rain: Too much rain can be rough for your roof, as it can cause water damage to your roof, meaning leaks for you to deal with.
