Ice Dam Dangers
During the winter, the snow and ice always look beautiful outside, however, the ice can become dangerous to your roof and gutters. One thing that can develop during the winter months is ice dams, which is a ridge of ice that builds up on the edges roofs after snowstorms that have freezing temperatures. Ice dams cause leaks inside your home and also prevents the snow from sliding off your roof, enabling it to pile up more.
Ice Dam Formation
A combination of both snow, heat, and cold is where ice dams come from. When there is snowfall, the heat from inside your home will make the snow melt and come down from your roof. The snow that melts will eventually run down into the gutters and refreezes it. The ice starts to build up in your gutters and can block them. So when the ice starts to melt and your gutters are clogged, water will look for another route that could that could lead into your home. Icicles can also develop, which can be dangerous to people walking around your home.
